ABi-Solar represents new product line of polycrystalline PV modules based Half Cell technology. The new product line called AB-60PHC and includes models rated at 275, 280 and 285 watts of maximum power (Pmax).
New ABi-Solar AB-60PHC PV modules have higher output, efficiency and ROI due to reduced “Cell To Module” loss, 6% less internal power loss due to shorter ribbon length and 50% higher yield due to better shading response. Half cell modules also have twice less mismatch loss due to double internal strings of cells in compare with conventional polycristalline panels.
Half Cell module consists of conventional 156×156mm polycrystalline silicon cells cut in half. So 60-cells standard PV module becomes 120-cells half-cell PV module. As a result, new half cells have shorter bus bar conductors. The shorter conductors mean less amperage, thus, lower resistance. Lower resistance reduces power loss to 6% and increase the output power from 5W to 8W per module. It means 16.5% lower risk of hot-spots due to lower temperature in partially shaded cells compared to standart full cell modules.
PV module with half cells constructively consists of 12 strings of cells instead of 6 strings in conventional 60-cells module. It handles the performance mismatch happened between cells, caused by shading, cells’ initial heterogeneity and uneven degradation.
Twice smaller cells not only reduce losses due to the fact that they generate smaller currents. Smaller cell also means twice less damage from micro-cracks in the cell and stains on the glass for the whole module. So, half cell modules are twice less vulnerable to point mechanical damage and dirt compared to standart module.
